Hey you guys, I’m back and I apologize for that.
While I was gone, the YouTube community seems to have crumbled; and what was once a thriving community has devolved into a jumbled mess of lost subscribers and views. I can’t help feeling this is my fault somehow.
Videos have started popping up all over YouTube like This and This. And while there’s nothing quite like a visibly drunk Steve Greene to get the troops riled up about a something, I feel like I should do my part as well to give back to the community which so graciously helped me get (product) placed on national TV.
The Internet is a big, big place. It’s dangerous to think you’ve seen it all (even more dangerous to try to). It’s always interesting to find someone I’ve never heard of who has 18,000 followers on Twitter.
So here, without regard for what network a YouTuber is or isn’t in, are some channels I strongly recommend you check out:
1. Danna Richards - http://www.youtube.com/dannarichards - Musician
Yup, my girlfriend is number one on this list. Blame me. Call shenanigans. Do whatever you want, but at the very least look at a few of her videos to see what kind of girl I can get. You might even like them (if you have any kind of a personality). Bottom line is she’s much smaller online than she should be and that’s what this list is about. My current favorite song of hers is this one. You should also check out her vlog channel if you like vlogging.
2. NextNextPresident - http://youtube.com/nextnextpresident - Themed
This channel belongs to a man running to be the next, next President of the United States. Enough about Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, who is concentrating on the 2016 election? Adam Carpenter is, that’s who. This is a man who cares about the issues that the current issues are going to cause. It’s a brilliant channel, terribly underviewed and is what YouTubers should strive to be. Everything uploaded follows this theme and even has a video of a white guy doing the stanky leg in America pants. You’re welcome for this.
3. RigorTortoiseComedy - http://youtube.com/rigortortoisecomedy - Sketch
Everyone and their mother has a sketch channel. But if you like sketch comedy you should absolutely check this channel out. It’s hard when there’s so much garbage to sift through on YouTube these days, which is why when you find something that doesn’t suck, it is your patriotic duty to SHARE IT. This message has been paid for by Ross Everett Against Terrible Content Committee. Here’s one of my favorite sketches of theirs. It’s smart.
4. Mark Malkoff - http://youtube.com/markmalkoff - Comedian
You might know Mark. He’s lived in an IKEA, gone to every Starbucks in NYC in one day, raced a public bus on a big wheel bike, and is now watching over 400 hours of Netflix Instant in one month. Long story short, guy’s got some balls. And for the low, low price of FREE you can watch everything he’s doing on his YouTube channel. Go live vicariously through him. He even slept at iJustine’s house, something only a select few can bolster (granted “outside of” and “underneath” don’t count).
5. Joe Hansen - http://youtube.com/BadgeofShame - Man on the Street
I might be putting myself a bit out of a job here as I also do Man on the Street videos, but this guy has a very unique style so I’m not too worried. He gets good views so it’s not like he needs the push or anything, but that’s not necessarily what this list was about. If you like my stuff, chances are you’ll like his. I watched his reel and became very jealous of his career. Go tell him about me.
See? That wasn’t that hard. Clicking things and watching them with your eyeballs. You should do it more often. And when you like something SHARE IT. The one thing I ask is that we all stop pretending that Ray William Johnson is great and admit that his success is due to the GROUNDBREAKING formula that made America’s Funniest Home Videos a success in 1989.
